Client portal
A separate, secure sign-in where a client sees their own engagements and nothing else.
The portal exists to stop the firm being a switchboard. Most of what a client emails to ask (where is my matter, did you get my document, what is this invoice for, when is the hearing) is already in the system, and the portal is simply the version of it a client is allowed to see.
It is a separate application with its own sign-in, not a role inside the staff app. A client account cannot become a staff account by having a permission flipped, and the scoping is applied to the data rather than to the screens.
What a client sees
- Their matters and the updates the firm has published on them
- Upcoming events: hearings, meetings and scheduled consultations
- Documents the firm has marked client-visible, ready to download
- Their invoices, with amounts, status and the work behind them
What a client can do
- Upload documents the firm has asked for
- Request a new consultation
- Raise a service complaint and follow it through
- Leave structured feedback on the work and the people who did it
- Message their assigned team, where the firm permits it
The boundary
- Visibility is opt-in: client updates are written separately from internal notes, and documents carry their own flag
- Complaint threads distinguish internal messages from the ones the client can read
- Nothing is shown because a screen forgot to filter; the scope is applied beneath the application
